RNLI
The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) is an iconic and vital part of our coastline and the reason many of us have the confidence to enjoy it in safety. Founded nearly 200 years ago in 1824 they have saved well over 140,000 lives (400 in 2021 alone). Even more incredibly they are made entirely of a volunteer force who give their time to be on call 24hrs a day ready to risk their lives to save others.
What they do:
Lifeboats and maritime rescue
Lifeguards (Patrol beaches to keep swimmers and surfers safe)
Water Safety Awareness (The ‘Respect the Water’ Campaign)
Flood Rescue (At home and assisting international efforts)
